This was absolutely Amazing my personal favorite though has to be signs. God yes, the story of the girl in the painting terrified me as a child. I was ok with the rest of it but the idea of her trapped in the painting forever, I spent way too much time stressing over what it was like from her perspective, how awful it would be, especially because she gets older. super creepy, and then the witch taps on the figure in the painting in the hotel and you hear a tiny yelp and it disappears! Made it seem to me like something that could actually happen somehow. Your videos are brilliant, really make me think a lot more about whatever film you're discussing than I would have before and I always enjoy them (even when it's about a film I didn't like. Keep up the good work.

Mama is the saddest movie to me. She wasn't inherently a bad spirit, she just wanted a child to love.
A young boy named Luke who has recently lost his parents, while traveling with his grandmother Helga (Mai Zetterling) they stumble across a convention of witches at a seaside resort in England. The witches masquerading as the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children are in fact launching a plan to turn all the children in England into mice. Apparently witches simply don't like the smell of children. It seems the Helga is somewhat acquainted with witches and the danger they pose. Unfortunately though when Luke attempts to spy upon them, he is caught and switched into a mouse while still retaining his mental faculties. It's now up to Helga and her grandson (now in mouse form) to stop this fate from befalling other children.
This is another good family film based on the works of Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda) which should appeal to both adults and children, though it might be somewhat frightening to younger children.
The wonderful cast includes a frightening Angelica Huston as the head witch as well as Jane Horrocks, Rowan Atkinson and Brenda Blethyn.
This would be the only real family or children's film by Nicholas Roeg, a Director with considerable visual skills.

Omg i remember getting so scared watching the original as a kid. This movie better do the same to the kids this generation. Animorphs is also a silent invasion story. I want all scifi fans to read that series. I thought the witches wanted to kill the children because they stinked. When they started talking about the shadow man I heard what sounded like someone rubbing they're hands together in my room.

I loved Roald Dahl's stories as a child, had the books and cassette tapes of most of them, The Witches, Charlie and the chocolate Factory, The Twits, Georges Marvelous Medicine, James the the giant peach, The BFG, Matilda, The Minpins, loved all these, and several of their adaptations. This movie in particular was special to me because not only was it a movie adaption of my favorite author at the time, but the hotel they filmed the movie at in cornwall, the headland, was just down the road from the house my parents booked every year, and I even visited the hotel several times because of it. Dahl sadly was one of those authors who, like stephen king, instead of appreciating the fact their work was being adapted into a film and garnering more attention, they just whined about changes made from there works, not understanding sometimes books need to be adapted to win over a different kind of audience from book readers. That said I can understand why he would hate the ending. I didn't understand as a child since I was just a kid who liked happy endings, and the movie adaptation made me forget the bleaker ending to the book. Seeing it as an adult now, the books ending was so much more in Dahls style of storytelling that the movie does betray that, Luke remaining a mouse and only living as long as a mouse would, its far darker, but presents an existential question to a young mind of which is better, being a child and knowing your only living relative will die while your still young, or living only as long as they will so you don't die alone.
This film is only interesting if you have taken some serious acids, in which case it will start looking like a Jodoworsky film. Otherwise, it is a very boring film. Who dared to insult the horror genre by labeling as part of it? Well, the union of horror critics, directors, writers, and fans are banning this one.
Funny with defenders of remakes of films based on books is that they always go for the part where it is just another adaptation of the book and more faithful. In most cases, it's not another faithful adaptation but in fact a remake. Carrie a good example. They actually took scenes right of the 1976 film that were not in the novel. How was it a new adaptation of the novel when they blatantly copied scenes in the original movie that weren't in the novel.

When I was about 11 I went to the library to find a book for a book report. Id always enjoyed horror and was tired of the young adults section. I ended up reading Cabal by Clive Barker. Lets just say I had to leave out A LOT of details when I did my report. Lol. When I started to watch it some more I wondered If this movie was about how Stuart Little came to be. Her name was Alice Palmer. The whole town loved her, but they didnt know her. And shes wrapped in plastic.
